City Hunter – “Invest big, win big”

Though the production cost of City Hunter has never been announced, the viewers can guess that this TV series cost quite a fortune by examining the locations of the series in Thailand and Lee Yoon Sung’s house.

City Hunter’s fans/viewers are clearly aware that the first episode of the series was not filmed in Korea. In fact, the series were partly shot in the land of the elephants, Thailand. The viewers can also tell that it was not in Korea but in some Southeast Asian countries by the banana leaves, the bamboo houses that Lee Yoon Sung and the rest of Lee Jin Pyo’s team live in, the elephants and the floating market. Viewers who know how Thai (the language) sounds like can also conclude that the first episode was filmed in Thailand because of the language that the local people speak in this episode. Only Lee Yoon Sung, Lee Jin Pyo and Bae Sik Joong (the Ajushi) speak Korean to each other in this episode. Shooting in the homeland of Korea is already costly; shooting in a foreign country brings the cost to even higher since the whole production crew needs to be transported and accommodated there. I did a little research on flight price from Seoul, Korea to Bangkok, Thailand. The cheapest ticket for economy class is around $400 for one person. We have a whole production crew of at least 30 people and also, does an idol like Lee Min Ho travel in economy class? I don’t think so.

Coming to Korea, Lee Yoon Sung does not have to live in the jungle under bamboo house anymore. He has his own luxurious apartment. This place is not crazily decorated with many different colors. The two dominated colors of his house are black and white. However, this simplicity actually shouts out the elegant element of the house. Everything in the house is shiny, clean, no tiny bit of dust though the sofa and the floor of the house are snow white. Between Lee Yoon Sung’s office and the house, there is an automatic sliding bookshelf. The dining room has a dining table at which 20 people can be seated while only Lee Yoon Sung and his Ajushi live in the house. The TV of the house is of course, HDTV flat screen and it can also be connected with the Internet. That is how Lee Yoon Sung often video chats with his father Lee Jin Pyo. According to personaltaste1983 blogger, Lee Yoon Sung’s house in real life is the Seoul Partner House, which is located right in the heart of Seoul, the capital of Korea and was just opened in 2009, which is located right in the heart of Seoul, the capital of Korea and was just opened in 2009. The house originally was not furnished as if it was in the movie. Therefore, all the furniture and room set ups are totally extra costs outside of the house’s rental cost. Plus, to keep the white sofas, floor and linens to be perfectly white while filming, that is another cost that film producers need to spend money on since the cleanliness of the house says a lot about the character of Lee Yoon Sung.

There is an old saying “Invest big, win big.” This definitely works for City Hunter when its last episode’s rating hit 19.1%.
